Library Journal's Best Books of 2008

Split: A Memoir of Divorce. Finnamore, Suzanne. Penguin Group (USA)

Best-selling novelist Finnamore (The Zygote Chronicles) never saw her divorce coming; to make sense of it, she dissects her once-broken heart with an astonishing calm and precision, breathing new life into a tramped genre. Fellow divorcées and connoisseurs of the English language will savor each exquisitely cut piece.

It would have been a best book of 2008 even without the Library Journal's blessing. Congratulations, Miz Finnamore. You truly are a wonderful writer...and a pretty good person, too.

Well done mate!! I'm yet to read it and am champing at the bit, but I have know doubt of its brilliance. Otherwise Engaged was hilarious and The Zygote Chronicles is beyond devine. I'm not a mother - yet, so help me god - but I was so moved by that book of yours. I was forever reading lines aloud and I gave it to a preggo girlfriend of mine who wept upon reading it.

Just read your article in the Mail On Sundays You magazine. I'm still with my unfaithful... but every feeling you described is just what I have been going through. I am just at the point now where I am getting a sort of inner peace, a sort of calmness, not really sure where it is coming from - maybe time really does heal???? I even felt as though I should have had a grave to go to so I could grieve the marriage I had before the night I found out! I even go so far as saying that the crime of betrayal should be a prisonable offence! I have been driven insane - seriously - by the betrayal. I've not had a minute’s happiness that has not been blighted by the pain I carry around with me every second of every day - awake or asleep! Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can actually read your book just yet… but who knows… maybe soon. Good luck with the book and best wishes to you and your little boy x

I wrote the last comment and I've decided to buy the book after all! Can't wait to read it.

YES. i honor your feelings about your betrayal and i understand fully that it does feel as if you are going insane. right? yes. you are in good company.

this feeling of peace you describe is - perhaps -- the knowingness that you are NOT crazy, and that is a huge step toward healing. and i have to say that i know several couples who have rebuilt their marriages after a betrayal. the choices are all yours, now. i wish you all the best as you move foward in courage and in your own truth. xoxo sf
